Cystic Acne Treatment with Platelet Rich Plasma PRP

      PRP for Cystic Acne

The bumps and inflammation of cystic acne can affect your face’s appearance, and long-term cystic acne may cause scarring. Additionally, the presence of the blemish may take a toll on your self-esteem.

Dr. Truong uses Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to treat cystic acne scarring. Platelet-Rich Plasma is prepared from your own body and contains components that may help better the appearance of acne scars.

Don’t allow cystic acne to affect you physically or emotionally. The Truong Rehabilitation Center will set up a treatment plan with you to help you achieve your goals. Make an appointment with Dr. Truong by contacting us here today.

      What Is Cystic Acne?

Cystic acne is severe, uncommon acne that can affect the face.

The acne is formed from clogged, infected sebaceous glands. Clogging can occur when the glands create too much oil (sebum), and too many skin cells grow. Cystic acne has the highest inflammation of all acne, and can appear as:

      • nodules: small, hard, subcutaneous bumps that are painful to the touch
      • cysts: painful, puss-filled, red bumps
      • papules: small, red bumps that may be inflamed
      • pustules: infected papules that too may be inflamed

If left untreated, cystic acne may cause raised, red scars or pit-like scarring.

      What Is PRP?

PRP is Platelets Rich Plasma, it is a concentrated preparation of platelets from your blood.

Dr. Truong centrifuges (spins) your blood sample to separate the PRP from the other blood components.

      PRP for Cystic Acne

PRP is used to reduce the appearance of acne scars.

When injected into your skin, PRP may encourage the creation of elastin and collagen, which, in turn, may aid in reconstructing and restoring acne-damaged tissue, bettering any skin color changes, and smoothing the skin.

      Your PRP Treatment

The severity of your scars and the size of the treatment area will determine how long your appointment may last (typically up to an hour).

Dr. Truong prepares PRP in her office during your appointment. She’ll collect the blood sample from your arm, and then prepared the PRP for your face. You may receive numbing cream to prevent any discomfort.

What to Expect After Your Cystic Acne PRP Treatment

After you leave the Truong Rehabilitation Center, you can return to your regularly-scheduled activities. Side effects may include temporary swelling or bruising.

You may notice instant effects from the injections that heighten in the following weeks. The skin changes will be noticeable in 3 weeks and will remain long term.

Dr. Truong will discuss whether you’ll need future appointments with you in detail (your scarring severity will impact the decision).
